Maybe Time to Reconsider the Avocado

If you have avoided the avocado in the past because of its reputed fat content, it may be time to reconsider.avocado-150x1501

The fat contained in an avocado has been shown to increase your HDL cholesterol levels (the good kind). It also has a huge load of other nutrients.

And its mild taste goes well with a variety of other flavors. Everyone uses it in guacamole, but slice it up for use on sandwiches and in salads, eat it with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar, or even add it to fruit salad or a smoothie for richness. Bake with it, even!

Even the story of how the avocado got its name is an entertaining one, one you can share the next time you’re at a party. And if you have kids resistant to trying it, tell them its “real” name is “alligator pear” and see if that piques their interest.

What’s your favorite recipe featuring the avocado?
